Safe spaces for adolescent and young women with disabilities: An avenue for disability inclusion and SRHR advocacy

The safe space has become a beacon of hope and empowerment for young teenage mothers and young women with disabilities. They fondly describe it as a sanctuary—a place where their stories and experiences are met with empathy rather than judgment. It stands as a bastion of learning and personal growth, where these young women and girls can unlock and nurture their talents, with a special emphasis on honing their advocacy skills.

Using ISJA tool to address SRHR issues within religious spaces.

IFAGE and The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians conducted lobbying in Usenge and Saradidi to address SRHR issues in religious spaces. With diverse denominational representation, the activity aimed to explore intersections between religious teachings and youth SRHR, identify barriers, and develop actionable strategies for promoting youth-friendly SRHR services within religious settings.

Black Coffee Network’s Capacity Building for Budget Champions.

Between 15th February and 11th March 2024, BCN conducted ten sessions on budget document analysis with the budget champions. The analysis focused on resource mobilization of the county revenue, budget appropriation, budget allocation, and budget expenditure. The activity aimed to critically analyze Nakuru County’s budget documents, examine the priorities of RMNCAH programs in the county budget documents, align with the national government policies on health, and track budget trends on RMNCAH.

Engaging Religious Leaders on Matters relating to Sexual and Reproductive Health

Religion has been called out as a significant barrier to the realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of youth with compounded vulnerabilities. SRHR are human rights that allow people to make informed decisions about relationships, their bodies, family planning, sexuality, and well-being.

Voices from the Pre-Youth SDG Summit on Intersectional Engagement

Youth participants of the Make Way programme in Zambia, convened earlier this month at the Pre-Youth SDG Summit Event on Intersectional Youth Engagement to collectively voice their aspirations and concerns as young changemakers in Africa. With a shared commitment to attaining the SDGs through innovation, inclusivity, and meaningful engagement, they present this Communique as a call-to-action for a more equitable and sustainable future.
