Campaign for the ratification of the African Disability Protocol
.The African Disability Protocol (ADP) is adopted in 2018 as an additional Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights. It contextualises the UN Convention for Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) for the African situation. It will enter into force if 15 member states will have ratified. At present five countries did so while ten member States have signed it. Both the African Union and the African Disability Forum (Who we are – African Disability Forum) are leading the regional advocacy, followed up by national campaigns by Disables Peoples’ Organisation and CSO’s in the countries. The ADP has specific articles on children, youth, women & girls and elderly people with disabilities, embraces SRHR related elements and specifically condemns certain harmful practices.
