In Rwanda, a good step was made to acknowledge the importance of sexual education and the accessibility of sexual reproductive health and rights information and services, although the journey is still long to achieve SRHR for all. The related problems like teenage pregnancies are still on increase despite different interventions that were put in place to resolve the issue.

A three-day training brought together representatives from Make Way Programme member; including Country Coordinating Groups, Collaborative Partners and Youth Panel members from Rwanda to learn on Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians’ tool on religious and cultural lobby and advocacy for sexual reproductive health and rights.

Training objectives

  • Examine how religion and culture supports or hinders access to SRHR.
  • Conduct an overview of the ISJA tool and its application in addressing some of the barriers that affect access to SRHR
  • Examine how to use of the ISJA tool to access religious and cultural structure and the community
  • Discuss how to initiate dialogue on SRH with sensitivity to local culture and religion.
