Through its commitment to feminist foreign policy, the Netherlands places paramount importance on universal equal rights and parity for all individuals, specifically emphasizing women, the LGBTIQ+ community, and other marginalized groups, as integral elements of its broader foreign policy stance. In this pursuit, the Netherlands stands alongside trailblazing nations such as Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Mexico, and Spain, collectively striving for global gender equality. In order to fortify the international endeavors and aspirations concerning feminist foreign policy and gender parity, the Netherlands is organizing the Shaping Feminist Foreign Policy Conference 2023.

At the forefront of the conference’s objectives is the sustained shaping of feminist foreign policy and the imperative to bring this agenda to the forefront, both within the Netherlands and globally. Additionally, the conference seeks to extend the network of nations that share similar values and actively advocate for a feminist foreign policy. Notably, the conference will extensively tackle the theme of resources, spotlighting the necessity for increased funding for women’s rights organizations and movements both domestically and internationally.

Decolonizing the narrative on queerness(es) in Africa

The Make Way program organizes one of the sessions during this conference. Theme of this session is “Decolonizing the narrative on queerness(es) in Africa”. The session will explore the history and the role of religion and tradition on the discussions and attitudes surrounding  LGBTQ+ in Africa. During this session, we will also look into how to decolonize the narrative on queerness(es) in Africa, provoke discussion about the Western, boxed approach to LGBTQI+ and its (un)intended negative effects, and explore ways forward to achieve social justice and dismantle the siloed approach to achieving civil and political rights.
